Dan Gurney was a phenomenal driver throughout his career, but his innovation as a constructor and designer was almost as great. The chassis that was driven to victory at Spa that day was constructed with a magnesium skin, titanium suspension, and custom engineered Weslake V12 engine. Everything came together for Gurney and the Anglo-American Racers Team on 18 June of 1967. As reported by Dennis Jenkinson:
“Amid much rejoicing in the Eagle pit, and no doubt a lot of quiet satisfaction at Weslake Engineering back in Sussex, Dan Gurney won the Belgian G.P. at record speed and with a new lap record (3:31.9 sec – 239.547kph) that he had set up during his chase of Stewart.”
